Google Business Profile Management

Your Business Profile is often the first thing a nearby customer sees, before they ever reach your website. We keep it complete, current and answered. Google charges nothing for the profile itself, and our fee is for the work.

What This Work Can and Can't Do

Google ranks Business Profiles on relevance, distance and prominence. In its words, relevance is "how well a Business Profile matches what someone is searching for," distance is "how far each business is from the customer who's searching," and prominence "means how well-known a business is."

Google is just as clear that "there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking." So here's the honest version. Nobody can change how far you are from the person searching. What management does is make your profile the best match it can be, keep it accurate, and keep the reviews coming in and answered.

Posts and photos mostly help the person deciding whether to call you. The right categories, accurate details and a steady stream of reviews do more for where you show up. How local search works

The Profile Stays Yours

Google's rules for agencies say every business must "retain ownership or co-ownership of their Business Profile at all times." You stay the owner, and we're added as a manager.

If you ever want us off, Google requires that we make that possible within seven business days. And if a former agency or employee controls your profile now, Google has a process for requesting access. We'll take you through it, without creating a duplicate profile that splits your reviews.

When the Profile Is in Trouble

These are the calls that come in a panic. Each one has a right way through and a few ways to make it worse.

Suspended

Google says "appeals can only be submitted once" and "do not create a new Business Profile for the same business." The appeal needs proof that matches the profile, like a business license or utility bill. We prepare and file it, quoted separately. Google decides, and it gives no timeline.

Stuck in verification

Google picks how a profile gets verified, not the owner. Changing your name, address or category partway through can restart the process, so nothing gets edited until it's done.

Duplicate listings

An old listing at a former address or a second profile someone made by mistake splits your reviews and confuses Google. We find them and ask Google to merge or remove them.

If You Work at the Customer's Place

Most trades on this coast are service-area businesses. Google's rule is that "if you're a service-area business, you should hide your business address from customers," and your service area "shouldn't extend farther than about 2 hours of driving time" from where you're based.

Google also doesn't accept P.O. boxes, remote mailboxes or an unstaffed "virtual" office as an address. Getting this wrong is one of the quickest ways to a suspension, so it's set up right from the start.

Every Review Answered

Every review gets a reply within one business day, the five-star ones and the hard ones. The next customer reads the replies as closely as the reviews.

We don't buy reviews, and we don't filter who gets asked, both of which break Google's rules. For a steady way to ask every customer, see review management.

What We Won't Do to Your Profile

Each of these breaks Google's rules, and all of them get sold to small businesses anyway.

  • Add extra keywords to your business name. Your profile uses the name on your sign.
  • List a mailbox or virtual office as your address.
  • Buy reviews or only ask the customers we expect to be happy.
  • Promise you a top spot. Google forbids agencies from guaranteeing top placement.

Questions We Get Asked

Is a Google Business Profile free?

Yes. Google charges nothing for the profile. Our $200 a month is for the work of managing it.

Who owns my profile if you manage it?

You do. Google's rules say the business keeps ownership, and we're added as a manager. If you ever want us off, Google requires that we make that possible within seven business days.

Is there a contract or setup fee?

No. It's month to month with no setup fee.

Do you reply to every review?

Yes. Every review gets a reply within one business day, good or bad.

Can you fix a suspended profile?

We can prepare and file the appeal, which Google allows only once, so it has to be right. Google makes the decision and gives no timeline. Suspension work is quoted separately.

I work out of my truck. Should my address show?

No. Google says a service-area business should hide its address and set a service area that reaches no more than about two hours' drive from where it's based.

Do I still need a website?

Your profile links to it, and Google checks that the two agree. A profile with a website that matches it is stronger than either one alone.

Do you handle more than one location?

Yes. Each location has its own profile. Tell us how many and we'll price it from there.
